This is a very special show to help raise funds for a good friend's daughter to attend the International Performing Arts Conference in Los Angeles this coming June. Her daughter Audrey is 9 and aspiring to get into the performing arts industry. She has a lot of potential, and this conference is a rare and exciting opportunity for her to build the future she has her heart set on.

We're on first at 8pm. Headlining is Western Aerial!

Saturday March 20
Location: the Party Barn (a private residence but all are welcome!)
13725 NW Park Place
Portland, OR 97229

Map:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=13725%20NW%20Park%20Place%2C%20Portland%2C%20OR

Showtime: 8pm $3 at the door,
Keg of free beer while it lasts, but BYOB!
Raffle tickets $1- prizes likely to include tattoo work, hair/salon work, restaurants/hotel gift certs, stage lighting discounts, and more.

All proceeds go toward Audrey's trip and conference fees. Don't miss this great night of great fun and the opportunity to help out this very special young lady!

The newsletter I got from Chelle has a little more information you forgot to mention.

Not only will we be performing our fun, rockin,' orginal music, but we have added 5 new cover tunes to our set list from favorite 80's bands including AC/DC, Poison, Great White, Kiss, and Joan Jett.

I'm going to guess the cover tunes.

"You Shook Me All Night Long"
"Talk Dirty To Me"
"Once Bitten, Twice Shy" (Which would make this a cover of a cover.)
"Rock And Roll All Night"
"I Love Rock 'N' Roll" (Another cover of a cover.)

"Talk Dirty To Me" would be the most ironic cover because Boom Bust did a cover of that when they opened for Shifft in 2004.

Good guesses but not completely accurate. We have actually decided against KISS and are going with a couple others instead. You will have to go to the show if you want to see how many you were right about.

No way. The last time I went to a show to see what the "surprise" was, I was disapointed. I'll wait for a post-show report.

As for the benefit, I'll try to rustle up some money to drop off at your house. It looks like a worthy cause. Money is kind of weird over here right now, but I think I can swing three dollars. Maybe a little more.

Jeezus Ray, you've been way too pretentious in our last 2 threads. Laughing Relax a bit, eh?

Congrats though on guessing some of our covers. However, yer wrong on others. Crying or Very sad

PS: Who gives a rat's ass if a cover is a cover of a cover of a cover of a cover of a cover of a cover of a cover of a cover of a cover of a cover of a cover? Mr. Green

Peace!

I guessed some of your covers right, which is really not a surprise. One, or two, of the correct answers must be the cover of a cover.

"I Love Rock 'N' Roll" will win you some irony points because Britney Spears did that song too. Applause

Have you guys written any more originals? It's great that you guys are finally playing shows on a regular basis. I think John said that Apophis Theory was going to put together an Oak Grove show for his birthday. You should talk to them about it.

Yes...we have a few more originals...only doing the covers for this benefit because the crowd there is really into 80's music and we need to fill up a bigger time slot than we are used to as it is so far only a 2 band bill.

Would you really pass on a show because you don't know what songs the band is gonna play? Not feeling adventurous? You know if you don't like a song then there is a HUGE outdoor area with a patio and fire pit for the smokers.

Did we mention FREE BEER while it lasts? I thinks it's gonna be PBR.

J/K

PS: Brittney Spears is hot!

I hope that was just a joke.

Why yes. Yes it was.

Meh. Not my type of covers. But if you guys are having fun, that's all that matters. Cool

Not really our type of covers either but we aim to please an 80's crowd so we are going to play for them...that is the only reason to play out live in my opinion...please the crowd. If you are trying to prove yourself as an artist and play for yourself hoping people will like it then you might as well just keep it to your basement.
We just want to have fun and we want out audience to have fun...these are fun "hit" singles that I think will please the masses.

I dont think Ray is being a troll, I think he's being evasive.

Jake - Shifft
Chelle - Stabitha

Two very well known bands in Portland.
Personally, I think its a sad day when two gifted musicians have to play 80's covers to get a crowd. Trust me on this, I'm not slagging you, only explaining.
It seems to be the nature of the beast. Monster guitarist of the 80's are now doing the same. Look at Russ Parrish. G.I.T. stud, lead guitarist for Rob Halfords Fight, now doing an 80's spoof called Steel Panther. There are also 80 shredders playing for Titney Spears, Christina Aquilar and the Jonas brothers. In other words, what's a person to do if they want to gig? From the view of the club...you have got to have a draw. If playing covers brings the crowd, well then....? (problem solved)

Personally, I see nothing wrong with doing covers and having fun ...(and I just bet that though you are playing a cover, you tweak it a bit and make it your own, one way or another)...I would hope that once you establish a following, they, the new fanbase, would support your original music as well.

Actually Mr. D we do have a fan base and have had very good turn-outs for both of our shows. We are not a cover band and have an original set of great songs that our fans really seem to like.
As a favor for a dear friend, we are playing a benefit show for her daughter. The crowd there to see us and support her daughter are a real party crowd that has a tendency to favor 80's rock. She/we thought it might be fun for the party to cover a few 80's butt rock songs for this show. We are ONLY doing it for this show and will not be playing them ever again. Our songs are straight up rock and roll and are somewhat similar in style to that genre so it seemed like a good fit do have fun with some of these songs for a night.
We are just trying to have fun but are still focusing on original music. We really just want to play music that inspires people to have a good time at our shows...maybe get the girls dancing a little. No pipe dreams of fame or fortune, not trying to sell anyone on how talented we are, nothing to prove to anyone. Just good time folks trying to party it up with their friends and fans and draw a decent crowd.
There are too many bands in this scene right now that are focused so much on trying to impress everyone all the time that they lose sight of what is important to a successful show.

YOUR FANS MUST HAVE A GOOD TIME!

They won't come back if you are a bore...well your friends and family will probably make it to half of your shows just to support you but sooner or later you will be playing to 6 people at the shitty clubs.
